An opportunity to learn painting at the Handicaps Welfare Association opened the doors for Bee Lian's entry into the art world. Since then, she has taken art lessons organised by Thomson Community Centre and VSA. Bee Lian also has a certificate in fashion design from a course she took in 1976.

Whenever Bee Lian comes across pictures of paintings in magazines, she visualises herself emulating their style and realism as a way of encouraging herself to do better.  Bee Lian likes painting chinese calligraphy, tranquil scenery and seascapes. She paints for diversion as well as for fun and companionship of like-minded friends with disabilities.
