Love for nostalgia translates itself into copious productions of the Lion City’s skyline and ethnic enclaves. Good for tourists and corporate clients who wish to sample memories of Singapore. Started art in Singapore School for the Deaf art and craft classes. Was only at age 14 that he painted seriously.
His first private tutor was a Chinese painter by the name of Mr Khoo, who came to his house to teach him weekly. In 1964, Mr Khoo died in a car crash and siang Hoi was coached by another artist couple.he began painting on his own after his second tutor also died in a car accident. Do art to unleash creativity. Paints Chinese junks and street scenes. Likes to change original facades of buildings into imaginative pictures and fresh ideas. Art is a means for me to communicate with people my joy and expressions. Got involved in charity exhibitions organised by Singapore Association for the Deaf. Totally hearing impaired from birth. Aspires to becoming a full-time artist who can market his own works.
I enjoy painting buildings, especially the disappearing scenes of Singapore such as Chinatown and Singapore river. I get my inspirations from postcards and photographs. Occasionally when I find time, I will visit the places I want to paint. With a full time job on hand, I can only paint at leisure, sometimes taking up a whole month to complete a piece of work. I hope to concentrate more on painting in the future.
