Climb every mountain, is what Lee Mun Choong is doing, conquering his disability to scale to new heights. Having his Chinese brush paintings commissioned to be printed on numerous greeting cards by greeting card giant Memory Lane is no mean feat, especially for someone with cerebral palsy. Sociable and friendly, Mun Choong was initially a difficult student as he was hyperactive and easily distracted because of the severe damage to one half of his brain.
Due to his mental capacity, his memory and concentration powers were very short. Despite these shortcomings, Mun Choong has been wielding his brush for well over ten years and has flourished as an artist. His view on art is that it is something he can do in order to express his feelings and to contribute to his independence. His works echo his childlike charm and his fascination with life and things around him.
For the simple reason that Mun Choong loves nature and flowers are ‘so colourful and beautiful’. Such simplicity that creates marvellous works of art. Mun Choong derives enjoyment from art, particularly the satisfaction of producing beautiful paintings. Unassuming Mun Choong wishes for support and encouragement for his and other disabled artists’ endeavours and for others to give him more exposure in order to enable him to progress in his art form. With the support of devoted parents and people around him, Mun Choong, like the exquisite flowers that he paints, has blossomed into an exceptional artist.
