Artist with rheumatoid arthritis
"Life is meaningless without art. However much joy I experience from painting, I also feel frustrated when I cannot accomplish a good piece of work…Painting is the only way of finding one's own happiness." This is how serious and passionate Shiow Chai Hong is towards the art she practises.
Chai Hong is distinctly meticulous at rendering lines, with which she creates texture to her watercolour landscapes. If viewed attentively, one could notice that her works do exude a subtle oriental charm. This charm goes hand in hand with her personality. She is described as a simple person with quiet discipline.
Despite being with rheumatoid arthritis, Chai Hong overcomes her physical obstacles with emotional strength and understanding. She has participated in Very Special Arts' group exhibitions, and her first serious exhibition was the Nokia Profile of Life at the LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts.
