Attending Art college, computer school and junior college, is Neng Ping's attempt at leading a normalised life after a diving mishap in 1986. So is reading, doing therapeutic exercises and swimming, the culprit for his fractured spinal cord.
Painting re-enters the quiet, jovial lanky youth's life after his 'A' Levels examinations as a hobby. His mother, his bridge to art and Chinese ink painting in childhood, is still his faithful cheerleader. Watercolour's placid calm suits Neng Ping's laid-back, easy-going, peace-loving nature. Its fluidity expresses itself fluently under the control of his slightly jerky hand.
"Through my paintings, I wish to share what is commonly adored by the general populace." - Yap Neng Peng
"Painting is a form of self-expression for me. On canvas are my reminiscences of a carefree kampong childhood in 70s Singapore, the sights and serenity of gardens and places I have visited, especially the simple beauty of the flora around me. Through my paintings, I wish to share what is commonly adored by the general populace."
