Azariah Tan Peng Chay is a third year piano major studying with Albert Tiu at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. He started learning the piano at the age of 6, and has since discovered his love of the piano's wonderful ability to express emotions in music.  Azariah has received awards at numerous competitions including 1st Prize at the 2009 National Piano and Violin Competition in Singapore, the 2005 Trinity College of London Music Competition in Singapore, 2nd Prizes at the 3rd ASEAN Chopin Competition in Kuala Lumpur(2008), the Asian Youth Music Competition (2007), and the IX International Competition of YOung Pianists in Nis (Yugoslavia-2006). He also received a Bronze award and special jury mention awards at the 11th International Chopin Competition in ASIA (Tokyo-2010).

 

 

Azariah was awarded the Yamaha Music Foundation Scholarship in 2007 and received a music scholarship offer from the prestigious Royal College of Music, London in the same year.  His current full-scholarship at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory is sponsored by the National Arts Council of Singapore. His performances have been broadcasted over the Yuglslavian National TV network during his trip there in 2006, as well as several times over the Singapore Mediacopr TV channels.  He has been interviewed on Symphony 92.4FM's radio station and has played to raise funds at the 2007 childAid, 2008 and 2009 "Welcome to My World" VSA concerts, as well as the True-Hearts Charity Show 2009. He has also performed with American billboard chartist and composer-pianist Kevin Kern at the Espnanade Concert Hall in Singapore in 2006.  He recently made his debut in the United States at the John F Kennedy Center, as one of the four recipients of the VSAarts International Young Soloists Award 2009.
