Funding & Sustainability in the Arts: what’s possible?

The big question that faces all artists and arts organisations is: how can we make a living from our artistic activities? Is it necessary for an artist to get funding from say, the arts council, in order to survive? Are there other strategies and tools to help the artist sustain their art-making and survive? This talk will discuss the current dilemmas in terms of funding and sustainability in the Singapore arts sector, and engage participants in a discussion about possible income generation and fundraising models.

Welcome To My World 2017

Welcome to My World 2017

Welcome to My World 2017 is back! Very Special Arts (VSA) Singapore is proud to present the ninth nationwide concert by artists with disabilities. The concert will be held on 13 August 2017 from 4pm at The Republic Cultural Centre, Republic Polytechnic. Guest of Honour Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development, will grace the special occasion. Every year, Welcome to My World concert is held with the goal to showcase the amazing talent of artists with disabilities from various Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) and special education (SPED) schools.

It aims to promote the belief that art is for all, including people with disabilities. Curated by Artistic Director R Chandran, the theme of this year’s concert is “We Are One Community”. There is a storyline which brings the audience through the differences and challenges faced by people with different abilities; and how they can learn to accept these differences and strive to build a happy community together. In line with the theme, the concert will feature performers from various sectors of the community – those with special needs, mainstream, senior citizen, children, youth and, for the first time, celebrity performer Benjamin Kheng will share the stage and perform with a combined choir made up of three Special Education (SPED) schools and the award-winning ITE Show Choir.

Purchase/Collection Booth: 5 Changi Business Park Central 1, #03-01 Changi City Point, Singapore 486038, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
