Art is everywhere. With art as a platform, people with disabilities would gain access and opportunities in areas where they may not be able to reach. With this scope in mind, VSA takes pride in continuously developing and promoting a wide range of art programmes for people with disabilities of all ages to ensure a bridge for interaction, self-development and expression.

  • Special Art Class
This is an on-going programme for people with disabilities. The classes take the students through the art-making process and teach them how to go beyond simply drawing images from their environment, empowering them to create unique works that allow self-expression.
VSA currently runs 17 art classes every week at the Bedok Centre, VSA Art Space @ Changi.
The classes run on a 10-week term with four terms in a year.
We also conduct art classes directly at centres welcoming persons with special needs such as Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled.
Each visual art classes vary in teaching methods, so new students have to be assessed first before determining which class will be the suit him/her best.
  • School Holiday Programmes
The art classes take a break during the annual school holidays and term breaks. During this time, VSA runs school holiday programmes which consist of art camps, discovery workshops and community activities.
  • Art Competition
Since 2003, VSA has organised an Annual Art Competition for children and youth with special needs to encourage more participation in the arts. In 2015, the competition received over 350 entries from various special needs education schools, and other organisations serving people with disabilities. This was followed by an exhibition showcasing winning and commendable works Prizes were awarded during the launch of the exhibition by Ms Denise Phua, Mayor, Central Singapore District on 18 September at Forum, the Shopping Mall. Public art workshops are also conducted during the exhibition for children visiting the exhibition.
